Hey folks, I’m Atley.
Actually, I’m not! Atley is a pen name I made so I could write filthy stuff without a filter. I’ve always loved writing but self-censored, not going as far as I wanted. That was until a good friend in High School had a traumatic experience and missed two weeks of lessons, falling behind and becoming even more stressed. I volunteered to write the short stories that were due for her creative writing class and went nuts, writing weird shit about disembodied hands and the days of the week being sentient. I realized that I love anonymity. (Don’t be surprised if my books get progressively weirder, y’all. I’m stretching my limbs and getting real comfortable in Atley’s skin like a Buffalo Bill wannabe.) After that, I was in a terrible relationship in which my ex stifled my creativity and belittled it, causing me to stop writing for four years. (Fuck you, Chris. It doesn’t matter if I’m writing Howl’s Moving Castle fan fiction, goddamnit.) BUT good news everyone! I met my amazing husband after I dumped the douche and he insisted I put pen to paper again. Or hands to keys, since he bought me Scrivener as one of my birthday presents in our first year of marriage.
Since then, we’ve had four kids, each progressively wilder than the last, the youngest of which is going into Kindergarten this year and the oldest in middle school. I’ve been writing short stories and creating worlds to play in and characters to hang out with. (Just wait til y’all meet Mic <3) I wrote in spurts as a hobby until 2021 when I stumbled on an erotic authors subreddit. Imagine me waggling my eyebrows here. I realized how attainable self-publishing is and set out to learn everything I could, like how to hire cover artists and make this nifty website so I could bring my stories to you lovely readers. Now I can share my weirdness with the world!
A friend asked me once why I love reading and I explained how I loved escaping into different places in my mind and how it helped me manage my stress, etc. But it’s more than that. Sometimes when I’m reading, I’ll find a sentence that reflects something inside of me perfectly. A thought I’ve had or a concept that I’d thought of but never voiced. And I realized some of those authors had pieces in them that perfectly matched pieces of me. It was so comforting to know that other people had those same thoughts and feelings. Now when I write, I hope that somewhere out there, there’s a person who reads my stories and realizes that a piece of me matches a piece of them.
This is a dream come true for me. Thank you to each person who reads stories. I adore all of you.
-Atley
